Supported Device Types

The Crestron Drivers SDK supports the following device types. When submitting a driver to Crestron for posting on the Crestron Drivers Portal, select one of the following categories that best matches the device type.

Native Device Types

The following device types have native support in certain Crestron applications, which provides a more integrated experience.

NOTE: Not all of the following device types have native support in all Crestron applications. Refer to the table below to determine whether the device type has native support within the provided applications.

Platform	A platform is a device ecosystem consisting of a gateway and paired devices. The paired devices will each define their own device type from this list.	¹	₂	²

Power Controller	PDU, UPS
Projector	Projector
Security System	Security system (DSC®, Honeywell®)
Scheduling Service	Microsoft 365®, Google Calendar®
Speaker	Smart speaker, soundbar
Video Server	Media streaming device (Apple TV®, Roku®)

¹ Only Driver SDK V2 platform drivers are supported in SIMPL. Support is made available via the Crestron Device Driver Configuration Tool and not the SIMPL wrapper module. Refer to Load a Driver for more information.
² Platform drivers cannot contain both Driver SDK V1 and V2 child device types.

Extension Device Types

Extensions are used to extend an application by providing their own custom user interface. Extensions are used to support a variety of device types, such as types that do not yet have native support, or types where Crestron does not plan to offer native support.

Lift	A projector or TV lift
Logic	Extension for logical operators (AND, OR, and so forth)
Masking	Projector screen masking
Media Player	Audio-only media player NOTE: Video media players are of native type Video Server.
NVR	Network video recorder (for security cameras)

Sensor	Any type of generic sensor device (temperature, humidity, motion, and so forth)
Shades	Motorized window coverings (shades, blinds, curtains, and so forth)

Thermostat	Smart thermostat (Ecobee®, Nest™)
UI Tiles	Extension for generic user interface tiles
Utility	Extension that adds any utility (essentially a catch-all type)
Vacuum	Robotic vacuum
Vehicle	Car or truck (Tesla®, Rivian®)
Video Conference	Video-based conferencing system control (Cisco, Polycom®)
Video Wall Processor	Video processor used to create video tile grids from multiple inputs (such as 2x2, 3x3, and so forth)
Weather Station	Weather reporting device
